Details about the Fatal Accident

The Herald-Tribune is reporting that three 21-year-old men were killed and another was injured in a single-vehicle accident that happened at about 3 a.m. on University Parkway, according to the Sarasota Police Department.

The police have said that the Mercury Grand Marquis was traveling west on University parkway at a high rate of speed and left the road for an unknown reason, and then crashed into several trees near the intersection of Old Bradenton and DeSoto roads at about 3 a.m.on Monday. At this point it is uncertain whether or not drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.

The victims have been identified as Wesley McCurley, Michael Duffy, and Dane Custer, all 21-years-old.

Thomas Bentley, who turned 21 years old today, was ejected from the vehicle at the time of the accident and was sent to the hospital but is expected to be okay.

According to a spokeswoman from the Sarasota Police Department, McCurley, who was driving the vehicle, had a history of speeding in Sarasota, with his most recent citation on March 12.
