Three New Recalls Announced by GM

Tina Robinson3 years ago

General Motors has recently announced three new vehicle recalls as a result of an internal safety review. GM says the new recalls are not related to last month’s massive ignition switch recall.

About the General Motors Recalls

According to USA Today, GM announced three new recalls of various vehicles. GM has said they will take a $300 million charge against first-quarter earnings in order to pay for their four current recalls.

The latest round of recalls is the result of a comprehensive internal safety review promised by GM CEO Mary Barra after the carmaker recalled nearly 1.6 million vehicles last month. GM is currently the subject of investigations and lawsuits surrounding the February.

Records show that GM was aware of issues with the defective switches as far back as 2001. The switches have been known to move out of the “on” position, resulting in power to the engine shutting off.

At least 31 frontal collision and 13 deaths have been linked to the faulty switches, according to GM.

Description of the Newly Recalled Vehicles

The following recalls have been announced by General Motors:

  • Approximately 1.18 million full-size crossover SUV’s due to a fault in the wiring. The faulty wiring may lead to the failure of seat-mounted side air bags to deploy.
  • The model and year of the affected vehicles:
    • 2009-2013 Chevrolet Traverse
    • 2008-2013 Buick Enclave
    • 2008-2013 GM Acadia
    • 2008-2010 Saturn Outlook
  • Approximately 63,900 full-size sedans due to a plug in the brake system that can potentially become loose, allowing corrosion in the system and causing overheating that can lead to engine-compartment fires.
  • The model and year of the affected vehicles:
    • 2013-2014 Cadillac XTS
  • Approximately 303,000 full-size vans due to the material covering the passenger-side air bags not meeting federal standards. Unbelted front passengers are at risk of serious head injuries as a result.
  • The model and year of the affected vehicles:
    • 2009-2014 Chevrolet Express
    • 2009-2014 GMC Savanna
