Three-vehicle Collision Yields Two Fatalities

19-year-old Hunter Schwertner and 60-year-old George Wilke died in Floyd County on Wednesday as a result of a three-vehicle collision.

About the Floyd County Car Accident

According to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, the crash occurred shortly before 8 pm along Texas 207.

Hunter Schwertner was traveling at a high rate of speed when he struck a vehicle driven Nancy Cooper, 49, from behind. After striking Cooper, Schwertner’s 2006 Chevy Silverado traveled into oncoming traffic and slammed head-on into George Wilke’s 1996 Jeep Cherokee.

Wilke and Schwertner were both pronounced dead at the scene. Wilke’s passenger, Robert Wilke, Nancy Cooper were both transported to University Medical Center with serious injuries.

Authorities believe that speed could be a contributing factor of the crash.
