Three Vehicles Collide at Texas Immigration Checkpoint

Officials are investigating a three-car collision that occurred at an immigration checkpoint in Texas.

About the Checkpoint Collision

The accident occurred around 10:30 am on Sunday, September the 13th. According to local police there were no major injuries.

Ken 5 News reports that an automobile accident caused a car to crash into an immigration checkpoint on Highway 57 near Del Rio, Texas this past weekend. 

According to the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP), a BMW SUV collided with a Toyota Sequoia that was being inspected by a border patrol agent. This BMW also crashed into a Border Patrol vehicle and the checkpoint canopy.

The driver of the Toyota was taken to a nearby medical center for concussion evaluation. The other occupants refused medical attention at the accident scene.

The following information was provided by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT):

  • 3,534 people were killed in traffic accidents in Texas in 2014 – a 3.4-percent increase from the 3,408 deaths recorded in 2013.
  • 1,974 of those deaths were attributed to collisions that occurred in rural areas of the state.
  • An additional 237,941 people were injured in auto accident in 2014 with 17,152 people reporting serious injuries.
