Hopeanne Wohlers2 years ago

A 1-year-old is fighting for life following a fatal collision that left two people dead and several others seriously injured.

Details of the Fatal Monroe Collision

The tragic head-on collision took place on Monday, June 16th in Monroe, Washington at 3:15 p.m. on Highway 522.

A Mitsubishi Eclipse was heading eastbound when it reportedly veered off the road and clipped a construction barrel. The driver then over-corrected, swerved into the westbound lane and crashed head-on into a Ford Fusion, according to KOMO News.

The elderly woman passenger in the Fusion died at the scene, soon followed by the elderly male driver. Those in the Mitsubishi suffered serious injury, including 1-year-old Bella, who was taken to Harborview Medical Center.

The toddler clings to life, as the first 24 hours after the crash are the most crucial. Family member Mike Racek said, “She's the sweetest little thing you've ever seen, I know that Bella is fighting hard, she's doing everything she can to make it through. It's mostly shock, it's too much for people to handle right now and they're just helping her fight for her life.”

Bella’s father is also being treated at Harborview Medical Center for unknown injuries. The accident closed a stretch of Highway 522 near Fales Road for several hours while troopers investigated and cleared the scene.
