A toddler was killed after he was accidentally run over during an Easter celebration.

Details about the Child Fatality

Multiple sources are reporting that a 3-year-old boy was killed over the weekend when he was accidentally run over and dragged by a sport utility vehicle. According to the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were sent to a home in the Garrison area after receiving reports of a child who had been run over.

Family members told police that the accident happened on private property and that the parents of the child were already headed to the hospital with the boy in their vehicle.

A police officer was able to find the family’s vehicle on highway 59. The vehicle pulled over and immediately began CPR on the child for nine minutes until emergency crews arrived at the scene.

The boy was taken to the hospital via ambulance where he was later pronounced dead. The boy has been identified as Romeo Tejeda Castro.

Investigators determined that the accident happened during a family gathering as children were about to start their Easter egg hunt. One of the family members was going to the store in their SUV and didn’t see the boy in front of the vehicle.

The Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office and the Garrison police Department are conducting an ongoing investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
