Toyota Adds 356,000 Vehicles to Takata Airbag Recall

Due to defective Takata airbags, Toyota Motors is recalling an additional 356,000 vehicles worldwide.

About the Toyota Takata Airbag Recall Expansion

Among the additional 356,000 cars recalled, 198,000 are U.S registered vehicles.

CNBC states that about 29 million Takata airbag inflators have been recalled in the United States, affecting than 19 million vehicles. Regulators have determined the inflators can activate with too much force and send lethal metal shards into the passenger compartment.

With the new recall, the number of affected Toyota vehicles as increased to 15,314,000 globally. This includes 3,156,000 in the United States.

Latest Updates on the Recall

This new recall in the United States consists of 2008 Corolla models and 2008 to 2010 model years of the Lexus SC430.

Reuters has reported that U.S auto safety regulators are investigating whether to recall an additional 70 to 90 million Takata airbag inflators.  Defective Takata airbags have been linked to 10 deaths and hundreds of injuries.
