Trane and American Standard Accessory Heaters Recall
Trane and American Standard have recalled about 3,900 accessory heaters due to the systems overheating and creating a fire hazard.
About the Accessory Heater Recall
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), heaters installed with reverse polarity on circuit breakers can cause the unit to overheat which poses a fire hazard.
So far, Trane and American Standard have received 10 incidents of the heaters tripping circuit breakers. Heat damage has also been reported.
Consumers are encouraged to stop using the heaters and contact their local Trane and American Standard dealer to schedule a free inspection.
Description of Recalled Accessory Heaters
- The recalled heaters were manufactured by Trane and American Standard between November 2014 and March 2015.
- Heaters were sold in 2015 from January to April at Trane and American Standard Independent dealers nationwide for about $120
- Models included in the recall are BAYEVBC15BK1BAA (15 KW Electric Heater) with serial numbers 1447B2BP1X through 1512B2CDDX and Model BAYEVCC25BK1BAA (25 KW Electric Heater) with serial numbers 1503B2AP0X through 1513B2BHXX
- Serial and model numbers should only be checked by a certified repair person due to the risk of electric shock.
