Details of the Fatal On the Job Accident
A 55-year-old man was killed Wednesday after a crash near Lyons, Oregon. The man, who was identified to be Jerry Dean Sramek, was killed while he was attempting to secure his load, and a 20-foot log landed on him.
The Linn County Sheriff’s Office said that Sramek was on his way to the mill with his load of logs when the accident occurred just off of milepost 14 of U.S. Plywood Mainline off Trask Road on Weyerhaeuser Columbia Timberlands property. Another log truck driver found Sramek , just before 11:30am.
Deputies said Sramek was wearing the proper safety equipment. He was an independent log driver. Since it was a work-related death, OSHA is investigating.
