Trucker in Fatal Florida Wreck Found to Have Had History of Driving Infractions

The driver of the semi truck involved in the fatal accident that occurred in Florida has been found to have a past full of traffic violations. The accident sent a car off Interstate 75 and into the Alafia River early Wednesday. 

Details of the Fatal Florida Trucking Accident

According to the Tampa Bay Times, the accident occurred at 2:36 a.m on Wednesday when the tractor-trailer attempted to pass a slow-moving BMW. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the truck clipped the rear of the car. 

The collision caused the truck to overturn and cross 1-75; the car fell into the 5-foot-deep river, killing the driver

Information of the Drivers Involved

The driver, a 30-year-old man, was driving an ABC Fine Wine & Spirits truck. According to records, his license has been suspended six times. Of his 27 violations, only two (both non-moving violations) applied to his commercial license. 

Lt. Jeff Frost of the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles explained that, “an applicant's previous driving history cannot disqualify him or her from getting a commercial license.”
