Two Dead in Clearcreek Trucking Accident

Two people are dead as a result of a multi-vehicle crash in Clearcreek Township, Ohio on Tuesday.

Details of the Clearcreek Accident

According to FOX-19, the accident occurred around 2 pm when the driver of a red 2005 Hyundai, identified as Jacqueline Montgomery, ran a stop sign at the intersection of Township Line Road and State Route 73 and collided with a flat-bed lumber truck.

The force from the impact caused the truck to veer across the median, colliding head-on with a minivan traveling in the opposite direction. Both of the occupants of the minivan, Robert and Margaret Large, both 66, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Montgomery was airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the truck escaped with minor injuries.

Ohio State Patrol is reviewing security footage as they investigate the incident – it is unclear whether charges will be brought against Montgomery.

Following information provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA):

  • 33,561 people were killed in auto accidents in 2012, marking a 3.3 percent increase from the 32,479 deaths recorded in 2011.
  • Another 2,362,000 people were injured in auto accidents – up 6.5 percent from 2,217,000 in 2011.
  • 3,921 people lost their lives in accidents involving large trucks and 104,000 people were injured in trucking accidents.
  • Of those killed in trucking accidents:
    • 697 were occupants of large trucks
    • 2,843 were occupants of other vehicles
    • 381 were non-occupants , such as pedestrians and bicyclists.
