Two Dead in Mitchell County Oil Field Accident
About the Mitchell County Oil Field Incident
According to the Petro Global News, two oilfield workers were fatally electrocuted last Wednesday when a cable from a wench truck came in contact with a power line.
Mitchell County Sherriff Patrick Toombs confirmed that the two men were part of a crew that was moving a pumpjack to a new location at a field roughly eight miles northwest of Westbrook – one other crew member was injured in the incidents.
The names of the deceased and the injured worker have not been released. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will be conducting an investigation of the accident.

- According to data gathered by the Houston Chronicle, 65 oil and gas workers were killed on the job in Texas in 2012.
- This marked the most fatalities to be recorded in the oil and gas industry in Texas in 10 years and a 50 percent increase over 2011.
- Further, between 2008 and 2013, more than 18,000 workers reported work-related illnesses or injuries including amputations, broken bones, crushing injuries and burn injuries.
