Two Killed in Minivan Collision with Semi in Massachusetts

A fatal crash on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Framingham between a tractor-trailer and a minivan left two people dead early Wednesday morning.

Details of the Fatal Tractor-Trailer Crash

According to CBS Boston, the details of the accident are as follows.

  • The deadly crash happened at about 5 a.m. Wednesday morning on the Massachusetts Turnpike near the Route 9 exit in Framingham, MA.
  • A minivan spun out causing the vehicle to be struck by an oncoming semi tractor-trailer.
  • A man and a woman in the van were both killed in the collision.
  • The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to the hospital to be treated for what is described as non-life-threatening injuries.

State police are investigating the cause of the crash and are looking at weather conditions as a possible factor.

The semi tractor-trailer was carrying a load of lumber when the accident happened, causing wood to be scattered on both sides of the highway. Lanes in both direction were shut down temporarily.

  • 81% of fatal crashes involving large trucks involved multiple vehicles.
  • In Massachusetts, 15 people were killed in accidents involving large trucks in 2012.
