Two Killed in Separate Train Accidents

Two Mississippians were fatally injured in separate train accidents on within a few hours of each other.

Details of the Fatal Train Accidents

On Wednesday night, Kathy Paglia, 55, of Gulfport, and Michael Fair, 41, were killed in two separate in train accidents, according to the Sun Herald.

According to Deputy Coroner Brian Switzer, Paglia’s accident occurred at 11:15 p.m. She was the only passenger in a Pontiac G6; a moving train hit her when her car couldn’t make it over the tracks. The accident occurred on Texas Avenue.

Coroner Gary Hargrove stated that the second accident occurred at on Thursday morning at around 3:30 a.m. Fair was sitting on the tracks and was hit by an eastbound CSX freight train.

According to Police Detective Steve Schlicht, the victim’s body was later found on east of Holly Street in the southern area of the tracks.

2,280 train accidents were recorded at railroad crossings in 2014 – up from 2,096 in 2013.
The 2014 crashes resulted in 267 deaths and 832 injuries.
Roughly 75-percent of all fatal railroad crossing collisions occur within 25 miles of the motorists’ home.
