Washington Worker Killed In Industrial Accident
About the Fife Industrial Accident
Authorities with Tacoma Fire told reporters the accident happened at approximately 10:50 a.m. at the Gensco plant located in the 4400 block of E. 20th Street in Fife, Wash. A group of workers were in the process of moving a large piece of equipment used to bend heavy metals when the equipment, which weighed about 11,500 pounds, fell over and landed on a worker.
By the time police arrived, the worker had died. An investigation into the accident is being conducted by local police and the Washington State Department of Labor.
According to Q13 Fox, Gensco is a wholesale distributor of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Supplies. The company employs approximately 450 employees and has 12 different Washington state locations.

In 2012, a total of 4,628 workers were killed in workplace accidents, according to Occupational Safety and Health Administration data. Averaged out, there were about 89 deaths each week or more than 12 deaths each day. 15 percent of all fatal workplace injuries involved contractors.
