West Marine Recalls 4,600 Folding Bicycles
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, West Marine Products Inc. of Watsonville, California has issued an immediate recall for 4,600 of their Jetty Express 2 and the Port Runner 2. These models have been deemed a safety hazard because their frames can break during use, posing a fall hazard to the rider.
Riders Injured while Using the Bikes
West Marine has received reports of the frame breaking while in use, resulting in injuries such as bruises and scrapes.
West Marine is offering a free replacement bicycle for every recalled bicycle returned to them.
The bicycles, designed for use around marinas and docks, were sold at West Marine stores nationwide, online at www.westmarine.com and in the West Marine catalog from March 2010 through July 2013 for between $300 and $400.
Description of Recalled Bicycles
- The Jetty Express 2 has a blue and white frame and folds at a hinge located in the middle of bicycle.
- “Jetty Express 2” is also printed across its frame.
- The Port Runner 2 has a red frame and also folds at a hinge in the middle.
- “Port Runner 2” is also printed across its frame.
- The bicycles were manufactured in China.
