Weston Construction Diver Killed on the Job

A construction diver was killed on the job in Weston, Florida on Tuesday after being trapped underwater.

About the Fatal Weston Construction Accident

According to WSVN, the man was working in a trench near Indian Trace and Bonaventure Boulevard when he became tangled in cables and trapped underwater.

The man was extracted shortly before 1 pm and was rushed to Cleveland Clinic, but was later pronounced dead.

Detectives are currently investigating the incident.

Following information provided by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA):

  • 4,628 workers were killed on the job in 2012. This equals 89 deaths a week or more than 12 deaths every day.
  • 4,175 of work related fatalities occurred in the private industry, with 806 of those daths occurring in construction.
  • The four leading causes of deaths for construction workers included:
    • Falls
    • Struck by object
    • Electrocutions
    • Caught-in/Between
  • Eliminating these four causes would save more than 430 workers’ lives every year.
