Whole Foods Market Recalls Percorino Aged Cheese in Walnut Leaves

The Whole Foods Market of Austin, Texas is recalling Percorino Aged Cheese in Walnut Leaves because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The product is sold in one Florida store and one New York store.

Hazards of Listeria Monocytogenes

Listeria Monocytogenes is an organism that can lethal infections in elderly people, young children, and those with weakened immune systems. Some possible symptoms are:

  • High fever
  • Stiffness
  • Nausea
  • Severe headache
  • Abdominal pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women

About the Whole Foods Recall

According to the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA), no illnesses have yet been reported. During a routine inspection done by the supplier, samples of the product had tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled cheese was pulled from store shelves on February 8th, 2016.

The recalled cheese was sold in a clear plastic wrap with the following PLU codes and sell by dates in Bowery, NYC and Coral Gables, FL respectively:

  • PCLU Code 294239 and Sell By 3/3/16 through 3/8/16
  • PCLU Code 290107 and Sell By 2/29/16 though 3/8/16

Consumers who have purchased this product from Whole Foods Market should immediately dispose it and bring their receipt to Whole Foods Market for a refund.
