Woman Dies in South Florida After Plastic Surgery Procedure
Authorities are investigating the death of a woman who passed away after a cosmetic procedure at a South Florida clinic.
About the Fatal Plastic Surgery Incident
According to the New York Daily News, Heather Meadows, a 29-year-old mother of two from West Virginia, traveled to South Florida for a plastic surgery procedure that turned out fatal. She underwent surgery at Encore Plastic Surgery in Hialeah, Miami-Dade County.
Meadows suffered severe medical complications and was pronounced dead by staff at a nearby hospital. The clinic and the police department have been secretive about what procedure was performed and about the details of Meadow’s death.
Coroners conducted an autopsy on the body, but results will not be made available until police complete their investigation.
Clinic Site of Previous Complications
Although the clinic does not have any active health care complaints, it was linked to an active medical malpractice case and a 2013 death was linked to another Hialeah clinic following a buttocks augmentation.
The clinic apparently offered a woman a procedure priced at $8,000 less than competitors. After the incident with Meadow’s, the woman was withdrawn her deposit.
Records cited by the Herald show Encore President Ismael Labrador paid a $30,000 fine in 2007 after police said he employed unlicensed doctors. State health officials are trying to revoke the license of Dr. Osakatukei (Osak) Omulepu, who has been listed on Encore’s website, on grounds of medical malpractice after they said he seriously injured four patients in two days at Vanity cosmetic surgery and another clinic.
