Woman Falls to Death After Balcony Railing Breaks
The New York City Department of Building has issued a vacate order for all balconies in a 20-story East Side high rise after a railing on one of the balconies broke, causing a woman to fall to her death last week.
Details of the New York Balcony Accident
- 35-year-old Advertising Executive Jennifer Rosoff fell to her death on August 30, 2013 after her balcony railing failed.
- Investigators are still unclear on how much pressure was put on the balcony railing, but as Jennifer Rosoff leaned on the railing, it gave way, causing her to fall 16 stories and land on a second story construction scaffolding.
- The Department of Building requires that balconies be inspected every 5 years.
- It is unclear whether the building was up-to-date on inspections. The accident remains under investigation.
