According to the Burlington Free Press, a woman was seriously injured in Essex, Vermont last Monday when a garbage truck overturned and landed on top of her car.

Details of the Garbage Truck Accident

A garbage truck lost control in Essex on Monday afternoon, rolling on top of a woman's car. The woman, who has not been identified, was trapped in the car and seriously injured. Heavy wreckers were called in by first responders to move the truck so the woman could be extricated.

The woman was taken to the University of Vermont Medical Center in “unstable” condition with serious injuries.

The crash occurred at Vermont 128 and Weed Road at about 4:51 p.m. Essex Fire and Rescue and Essex Junction Fire Department both responded to the call.

According to Essex Fire Chief, Charles Cole, “The garbage truck was coming around the corner here of Vermont 128 and Weed Road, lost control and turned onto its side, and in the process it landed on top of the silver car you see behind me, trapping the driver inside.”

Once the woman was freed from the car, the Essex police took over. They called in the State commercial motor vehicle inspectors and the Vermont State Police accident reconstruction team to investigate.

Once the investigation was complete, heavy wrecker trucks moved the garbage truck off the car. The teams worked all through the night until the following morning.

The driver of the garbage truck was unscathed.
