Woman Injured in Texas County Accident

A woman had to be airlifted from an accident scene in Texas County, Missouri on Sunday morning, the Houston Herald reports.

Details of the Accident  

20-year-old Coral J. Rowland was driving her Mitsubishi Gallant when her vehicle crashed into a fence after crossing the highway center and running across the roadway.

No other vehicles were reported to have been involved in the wreck; however, Ms. Rowland, who was wearing her seatbelt, left the incident with moderate injuries and the vehicle sustained considerable damage.

Ms. Rowland was flown from the crash site to a nearby hospital.

  • According to Missouri State Highway Patrol data, drivers under the age of 21 were involved in a significant amount of Missouri accidents. Of all 2011 traffic crashes, nearly 25 percent involved one or more drivers under the age of 21.
  • Over 18 percent of all fatal crashes involved a driver under the age of 21.
  • In the State of Missouri, one person was killed or injured every 46 minutes in an accident involving the striking of a fixed object on the roadway.
  • For drivers involved in traffic crashes who were not killed or injured, over 97 percent were wearing their seat belt at the time of the crash.
