Woman Killed, Another Seriously Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash in Utah

Police have released new details about a fatal multi-vehicle crash that occurred on Thursday night in Draper, Utah, according to Fox 13.

Details of the Fatal Crash

Authorities say the crash happened at 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of 123000 South and Lone Peak Parkway. A vehicle driven by Bill Robert Thompson, 44, ran a red left which led to a seven-vehicle crash.

A woman killed in the crash has been identified as Susan Madsen, 43. Madsen was pronounced dead at the scene. Her daughter was also seriously injured in the accident. Four other people whose names have not been released were being treated for minor injuries.

Draper City Police have said they received a report of domestic violence, but the suspect left before police could respond. Thompson was later identified as the suspect in that investigation.

Police have said Thompson will be booked with a list of charges when he is released from the hospital where he is being treated for injuries sustained in the crash. Charges will include suspicion of vehicular homicide, driving under the influence of alcohol and causing injuries, reckless driving, aggravated assault, and domestic violence.

According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), there were 1,727 alcohol-related crashes in Utah in 2012 which resulted in 1,043 injuries. That same year there were 12,490 DUI arrests. The cost to taxpayers for drunk driving in 2012 was $163 million.
