Woman Killed, Children Injured in George West Trucking Accident

Authorities are investigating a trucking accident that left one person dead and two children injured.

Details of the Trucking Accident

KRIS-TV reports the collision occurred on Highway 281 around 6 am Sunday.

Investigators believe the accident occurred when the driver of a red pickup failed to see a tractor-trailer that was making a wide turn near the Flint facility. Dense fog may have been a factor in the collision.

The driver of the pickup, identified as a 31-year-old woman, was killed in the crash. Two children were also riding in the pickup – both were transported to Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi.

  • The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recorded 3,921 trucking-related deaths in 2012, marking a 4-percent increase from the 3,781 deaths recorded in 2011.
  • Of those killed in trucking accidents in 2012:
    • 640 were occupants of large trucks.
    • 2,713 were occupants of other vehicles.
    • 428 were non-occupants including pedestrians and pedalcyclists.
  • Another 104,000 people were injured in trucking accidents in 2012.
