According to the Kansas City Star, police were chasing a 28-year-old male driver who was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu east on Shawnee Drive when the driver allegedly ran a stop sign at South 34th street and struck the driver’s side of Olivas 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt.

The crash occurred at approximately 6:44 pm according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. Olivas, who was wearing a seat-belt, later died in the hospital.
