Woman Killed in San Antonio Crash

An elderly woman was killed on Thursday as a result of a four-car pileup in San Antonio’s North Side.

Details of the Fatal Accident

According to the San Antonio Express-News, 87-year-old Eunice Querner was killed in a four-vehicle crash along the interchange between U.S. 281 northbound and Loop 410 westbound.

The incident occurred around 2:30 pm when Chevrolet Suburban crashed into the Cadillac that Querner was a passenger in. The impact forced the Cadillac into another car which then collided with a fourth vehicle.

Querner was pronounced dead at the scene; at least one other person involved in the accident was hospitalized.

Authorities are still investigating the incident.

The following information was provided by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT):

  • 3,377 people were killed in auto accidents in Texas in 2013, marking a 1.05 percent decrease from the 3,413 fatalities recorded in 2012.
  • Another 232,041 people were injured in traffic collisions along Texas roadways in 2013 with 89,270 people sustaining serious injury.
  • There were 485 pedestrian fatalities recorded and 48 pedalcyclist fatalities.
  • TxDOT estimates that:
    • One person was killed in a traffic collision in Texas every 2 hours and 36 minutes.
    • One person was injured every 2 minutes and 16 seconds.
    • A reportable crash occurred every 71 seconds.
