Woman Killed in San Antonio Rollover Crash

A woman was killed in downtown San Antonio last Tuesday morning as a result of a rollover crash.

About the Fatal San Antonio Accident

According to the San Antonio Express-News, the woman was a passenger in a Ford Explorer Sport Trac that was heading north on U.S. 281. 

The driver lost control of the vehicle near Hays Street and struck a concrete divider. The woman wasn't wearing a seatbelt and was thrown out of the vehicle when it rolled over. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, the driver was intoxicated and was arrested for intoxication manslaughter. Neither of the individuals involved has been identified.

The following information was provided by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT):

  • 3,377 people were killed in auto accidents in 2013, marking a 1.05-percent decrease from the 3,413 deaths reported in 2012.
  • 1,333 deaths were linked to single vehicle accidents, and 767 people were killed in collisions that occurred at or in relation to an intersection.
  • 1,089 deaths were associated with accidents that involved a driver who was under the influence of alcohol.
  • And additional 232,041 people were injured in auto accidents in2013 with 89,270 people suffering serious injuries.
