Worker Killed in Carnival Accident

A woman is dead after being struck by equipment at a carnival job site in Chambers County, southeast of Houston, Texas.

About the Fatal Carnival Accident

According to the San Antonio Express-News, the 30-year-old woman was working as part of a carnival crew in Winnie Stowell Park on Wednesday.

The woman was struck by a piece of equipment around 4:00 pm as she removed a transportation brace. Winnie Emergency Medical Service technicians responded to the accident, but the woman was already unresponsive.

The woman was rushed to Winnie Community Hospital, about one mile away from the accident, but was pronounced dead shortly after.

The victims name has not been released.

On the Job Accident Statistics

Following information provided by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA):

  • 4,405 workers were killed on the job in work-related accident in 2013.
  • This averages to 85 a week or more than 12 deaths every day.
  • Of those, 3,929 occurred in private industry and 796 were associated with construction.
