Worker Killed in Harris County Forklift Accident

A worker was crushed and killed on Thursday morning while working with a forklift company in Harris County, Texas

About the Fatal On the Job Accident

According to the Houston Chronicle, the fatal accident happened around 3:30 a.m. when the man was operating a forklift.

Preliminary reports indicate he climbed off of it but left the engine running. As he walked between the forklift and a large spool, the machine lurched forward and trapped the man, crushing him.

The man’s identity has not yet been released.

On the Job Injury Statistics

The following information was provided by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA):

  • 4,679 people were killed in on the job accidents in 2014 – this averages to 90 deaths a week or more than 13 deaths per day.
  • 4,251 of the deaths were associated with private industry and 874 occurred at or in relation to construction sites.
  • Among the leading causes of on the job deaths were:
    • Falls
    • Electrocutions
    • Struck by object
    • Caught-in/between
