Worker Killed in Scriba Accident
Details of the Scriba Industrial Accident
According to WWNY-TV, Steven Cooper was killed Monday afternoon in an industrial accident while working in the recycling area of Novelis Corp.
The company did not reveal what Cooper was doing when the incident occurred, but reports suggest that Cooper had been working with at the plant for several years.
Novelis produces aluminum which is used in automobiles and recently installed a new aluminum automotive sheet finishing line. The company also expanded its automotive scrap recycling operations.
Police said another worker died at the plant three years ago.

- The rate of job related fatalities has remained steady over the past four years with a rate of 3.4 deaths per 100,000 workers recorded in 2012.
- Another 3.8 million work-related injuries and illnesses were reported in 2012, though AFL-CIO claims that the true number of work related injuries is closer to 7.6 million.
