Wreck Cuts Car in Two, Kills Passenger

One person died in Houston Thursday night as a result of an accident that split a car into two pieces.

Authorities Continue Investigation of Fatal Accident

According to the Houston Chronicle, three people were traveling in a speeding vehicle which struck a tree near the intersection of Bissonet and S. Gessner in Houston, Texas.

Officers responded to the scene shortly before 11:00 pm to find the vehicle had been torn into to pieces. Preliminary reports indicate the vehicle slammed on its brakes at a red light before losing control.

One of the passengers was pronounced dead while the driver and a second passenger were transported to an area hospital in serious but stable condition.

Police are investigating whether alcohol played a role in the fatal accident.

  • 3,534 people were killed in auto accidents in Texas in 2014 – a 1.75-percent increase over the 3,408 deaths reported in 2013.

  • An additional 237,941 people sustained injuries due to auto accident in 2014 – roughly one injure every 2 minutes and 13 seconds.
