Wrongful Death Case Settles for $750K
A settlement of $750,000 has been reached in the case of a disabled man who died after wandering away from his residence at a New York City specialty hospital/nursing facility in 2011.
Disabled Patient Wanders Away from Facility
In April 2011, a 41-year-old quadriplegic man boarded his motorized scooter and left his residence at a New York City nursing facility. Staff members were not aware of his absence until the next morning when he was found unresponsive in the hospital courtyard. He was transported to the hospital where he suffered a cardiac arrest and died the same day.
The man’s daughter filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the hospital, claiming that negligence on the part of the hospital staff contributed to her father’s death. The two parties settled for a total of $750,000.
