A young girl was hit and killed by a car just a few blocks from her school on Monday morning.

Details about the Accident Involving the Young Girl

The New York Post is reporting that a 12-year-old girl was hit and killed by a car while walking to school on Long Island on Monday morning, according to officials.

The girl was attempting to cross the intersection of Elmont Road and Village Avenue when the driver of a Nissan Rogue slammed into her at around 7:30 a.m., according to the Nassau County Police.

The young girl was less than a block away from her school, Elmont Memorial High School when she was killed.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene of the accident and investigators at the accident do not believe there was any criminality involved in the incident. At this time, it has not been revealed whether or not the driver of the car that hit the girl had been speeding or not.

After she was hit by the car, the girl was transported to Franklin Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
