Mr. Akbar Khwaja earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law, where he graduated in the top 25% of his class and earned Dean’s Scholar recognition. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Dallas, where he graduated cum laude.
Mr. Khwaja brings extensive courtroom experience to his practice at Thomas J. Henry Law. Prior to joining the firm, he served as an Assistant District Attorney III with the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office, where he prosecuted state felony-level crimes and handled more than 50 jury trials. His trial experience includes jury selection, opening statements, witness examinations, cross-examinations, oral arguments, and closing statements. He also managed a docket of more than 2,500 cases, negotiated plea offers, drafted motions and other legal documents, and assisted with appellate briefs and responses.
Before serving with the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office, Mr. Khwaja practiced in the areas of immigration, family, and criminal law, representing clients in court, conducting depositions, negotiating settlements, handling discovery, and managing cases from initial client intake through trial. He also gained experience in civil litigation and employment law, representing businesses, corporations, and insurance companies and preparing legal risk assessments.
Mr. Khwaja is licensed to practice law in Texas and Missouri. He is fluent in English, Hindi, and Urdu. Outside of his legal practice, he has served as a Sunday school teacher and volunteer boxing coach and holds a pilot’s license.
