Ms. Angel A. Williams received her Juris Doctor from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law in New Orleans, Louisiana and also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, where she graduated cum laude.
Ms. Williams built her law school record around trial advocacy. She served as Chief of Staff of Loyola’s Trial Advocacy program, competed as a member of the Costello Competition Team, and was inducted into the Order of Barristers, a national honor recognizing excellence in courtroom advocacy. She also served as President of the Loyola Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild, as Secretary of the A.P. Tureaud Chapter of the Black Students Association, and as counsel for the charged party before the school’s Honor Board.
As a student practitioner with the Stuart H. Smith Law Clinic and Center for Social Justice, Ms. Williams was sworn into the limited practice of law and represented indigent youth in special education proceedings and juvenile delinquency defense, arguing two adjudication hearings before an Administrative Law Judge. She spent two years as a research assistant to Professor Andrea Armstrong on a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation fellowship examining the effects of incarceration on health services in Louisiana. Ms. Williams also clerked in a family law unit, where she conducted client intakes and screenings and drafted pleadings, memoranda, and petitions, and she interned with a judge, preparing bench memoranda analyzing possible case outcomes and presenting recommendations to the Court. Additional internships with a children’s rights organization and a public defender’s office gave her exposure to every stage of criminal defense litigation.
Prior to joining Thomas J. Henry Law, Ms. Williams worked as a law clerk supporting a domestic violence practice group, assisting staff attorneys through every phase of a case, from intake and discovery to hearings, motions practice, and settlement negotiations. Earlier in her career she served as a case manager and hotline specialist at a domestic violence center in Baton Rouge, providing crisis intervention, safety planning, and court advocacy for survivors, and she later coordinated caseworker support for youth in state protective custody in Texas.
Since joining the firm, Ms. Williams has focused her practice on the representation of clients injured in car accidents, trucking accidents, premises liability accidents, and workplace accidents. Years of direct advocacy for clients in crisis inform the way she communicates with the injured people and families she represents.
