Charlton P. Hornsby

Attorney at Thomas J. Henry Law's San Antonio Office

Mr. Charlton P. Hornsby was born in Fort Hood, Texas on July 2, 1960.  His father, Edward, served in the United States Army for 21 years and retired in 1969. He was a wartime veteran having served in the Korean War. Mr. Hornsby describes himself as a “military brat” and with the exception of three years at Fort Wainwright, Alaska, and a year at Fort Riley, Kansas spent his entire life in Texas.  Mr. Hornsby is Texas-born and raised—Texas proud.

Growing up Mr. Hornsby loved to watch Perry Mason and became fascinated with Mr. Mason’s dramatic courtroom victories. It was during this time period that Mr. Hornsby became a student of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  He played Dr. King’s speeches on a Sears record player while doing his household chores and read articles and books about Dr. King.  Mr. Hornsby describes Dr. King and his father, Edward, as two major influencers in his life. On April 4, 1968, Mr. Hornsby recalls watching television when the news of Dr. King’s death flashed across the screen. Mr. Hornsby knew that Dr. King was a significant loss for this country and wondered what he could do to make a difference. The idea of being a lawyer came to his mind and it simply stuck. Mr. Hornsby was seven years old at the time.

Mr. Hornsby has now been practicing law for almost 34 years and serves as a personal injury attorney in San Antonio.  He has been Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law for 21 of those years. During his career, he has represented clients throughout Texas. He says he has handled a “ garden variety” of personal injury matters that include: car accidents, slip and falls, premises liability, medical malpractice, nursing home negligence, products liability, 18 -wheeler crashes, and crashes involving other commercial vehicles. These cases included matters under the Texas wrongful death statute. Mr. Hornsby has extensive experience mediating cases for his clients and even completed mediation training at the University of Texas School of Law several years ago and has served as a mediator.  He has obtained significant out-of-court settlements for his clients. He also has extensive jury trial experience and has obtained several national and state-ranked “ TOP VERDICTS” for his clients. He loves to win and says that to win you must work hard and know your clients and their case.

Earlier in Mr. Hornsby’s legal career, he was a presenter at CLE events for the State Bar of Texas and the American Bar Association. He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin where he obtained his undergraduate and law degrees.  He is an ordained minister and before relocating to San Antonio served as the Assistant Pastor in Port Arthur, Texas.  He was in charge of the NEXGEN (youth) and Men’s Ministries.  He describes himself as a “ people person.”

In his spare time, Mr. Hornsby loves to watch movies and spend time with his children and grandchildren
