Derek Whitney

Mr. Derek Whitney earned his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, cum laude, from the University of Washington, where he was a member of the Tau Sigma Honor Society. He went on to earn his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from SMU Dedman School of Law in Dallas. While there, he served as a Faculty Research Fellow, took part in the SMU-in-Oxford Program at University College, Oxford, and was a member of the Tax Law Society. In the Civil Consumer Law Clinic, he met with clients for intake and represented a client in court-ordered mediation. He later earned a Master of Laws in Taxation from the University of Florida Levin College of Law.

Before joining the firm, Mr. Whitney worked as an associate attorney at a Dallas law firm. There he took part in arbitration, met with clients, did legal research and wrote memoranda, and drafted original petitions and discovery motions. He also worked as a tax consultant at Deloitte, where he advised clients on compliance with state tax codes and regulations. Most recently, he did large-scale document review for litigation and regulatory matters, reviewing documents for relevance, privilege, and confidentiality.

At Thomas J. Henry Law, Mr. Whitney works out of the firm’s Dallas office, helping clients who have been injured through the negligence of others. Outside the office, he enjoys Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, rock climbing, scuba diving, golf, chess, reading, traveling, and living a healthy lifestyle.
