John Fredland

Mr. John S. Fredland joined Thomas J. Henry after serving for 20 years in the United States Air Force’s Judge Advocate General’s Corps. He retired from active duty with the rank of lieutenant colonel in 2020. He served in Air Force assignments throughout the United States and in Japan and Qatar, with duties including criminal trial prosecution and defense and appellate defense; general counsel for four flying wings and the Air Force’s intelligence center; and oversight of justice and discipline for the Air Force’s education and training command.

A native of Pittsburgh, PA, Mr. Fredland received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Vanderbilt University. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science from Rice University. He earned a Master of Laws degree in Military Law from the Army’s Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School, with a concentration in International and Operational Law. He is a member of the Texas and Pennsylvania Bars, and he has worked as a Staff Attorney with the Fourth Court of Appeals in San Antonio.

Outside of work, Mr. Fredland is a published baseball historian. He serves in a leadership position with the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR), overseeing SABR members’ research and writing on historically significant baseball games. His writing has appeared in books on Roberto Clemente, Sandy Koufax, Willie Mays, and Yankee and Dodger Stadiums. He met his wife Dawn through their mutual interest in distance running, and he is a stepfather to four and a father to one.
