Sam M. Cohn

Mr. Sam M. Cohn joins Thomas J. Henry Law with nearly five years of litigation experience and a courtroom record built on jury trials, bench trials, pre-trial motion practice, depositions, mediation, and negotiation. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Washington School of Law in Seattle, Washington and also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Law, Societies, and Justice, with departmental honors and a minor in Political Science, from the University of Washington.

During law school, Mr. Cohn served as a law student extern to a King County Superior Court judge in Kent, Washington, researching and drafting bench memoranda. He also interned with the King County Office of Law Enforcement Oversight, analyzing Ninth Circuit use of force case law to confirm that the county sheriff’s general orders were consistent with existing precedent. Earlier, as an undergraduate intern with the Federal Public Defender’s Office for the Western District of Washington, he reviewed government discovery, worked directly with clients, and took part in legal strategy discussions.

Prior to joining Thomas J. Henry Law, Mr. Cohn practiced in Bend, Oregon. He began his career in family law and went on to manage a caseload of high-conflict family law cases, representing clients through trials, pre-trial hearings, depositions, mediations, and settlement negotiations. He later owned and operated his own practice focused on pre-nuptial agreements and contract disputes before returning to firm practice as a criminal defense attorney, handling appointed and retained matters and trying cases to verdict. He built a reputation for traveling well beyond his home county to try cases when doing so served his clients, and he was named an Oregon Super Lawyers Rising Star by Super Lawyers in 2024, 2025, and 2026.

Since joining the firm, Mr. Cohn has focused his practice on the representation of clients injured in car accidents, trucking accidents, premises liability accidents, and workplace accidents. He is drawn to the strategy of case preparation and to the responsibility of standing up in court when the stakes are highest for the client.

Outside of work, Mr. Cohn practices Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, skis, mountain bikes, and golfs. He is originally from Salt Lake City, Utah and Seattle, Washington, and moved to Austin from Bend, Oregon.
