Two Electrocuted in Texas Construction Accident
Two individuals working at a Sherman, Texas construction site were injured after hitting an electrical line with their equipment.
About the Sherman Construction Accident
According to KX11 News, the two contractors were working on phone cable that was buried east side of Loy Lake road.
At around 2 pm, a piece of equipment being used by the contractors came in contact with an electrical line. One of the workers was airlifted to a hospital in Plano while the other was transported to a Sherman-area hospital.
Current reports indicate both contractors are expected to survive.
Construction Accident Statistics
The following information was provided by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA):
- 4,821 workers were killed on the job in 2014 – this averages more than 13 deaths every day
- Of those killed, 4,386 occurred in private industry with 899 deaths occurring in construction.
- Among the leading causes of death at construction sites were:
- Falls
- Electrocutions
- Struck by object
- Caught in/between
