Subaru Recalls 100K+ Vehicles due to Potential Fire Hazard
Subaru is issuing a recall on 100,127 vehicles containing a turbo-charged engine due to a risk of fire linked to the air injection pump.
About the Subaru Vehicle Recall
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall on several turbo-charged Subaru models is because of a defect in the secondary air injection pump power relay.
If the power relay for the air injection pump fails, the pump continuously operates, causing it to overheat. The pump can melt and cause a fire hazard if it overheats.
Signs that the pump is overheated and melted include an odor, smoke, and potentially fire.
Subaru will notify owners of the recalled vehicles. Subaru dealers will replace the faulty air injection pump relay at no cost to the owner.
Description of the Recalled Subaru Vehicles
The recall affects four different Subaru models. The following vehicles and model years are affected by the recall:
- 2007 – 2009 Subaru Outback
- 2007 – 2009 Subaru Legacy
- 2008 – 2013 Subaru Forester
- 2008 – 2014 Subaru Impreza
Only vehicles with turbo-charged engines are subject to the recall.
