Tesla Recalls Over 2 Million Vehicles for Incorrect Font Size on Warning Lights
According to USA Today, Tesla is recalling over 2 million vehicles in the United States due to an issue with the font size of critical warning lights. This recall affects a wide range of Tesla models, including:
- 2012-2023 Model S
- 2016-2024 Model X
- 2017-2023 Model 3
- 2019-2024 Model Y
- 2024 Cybertruck
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) identified an issue where the font size used for the Brake, Park, and Antilock Brake System (ABS) warning lights on the instrument panel is smaller than required. This could make it difficult for drivers to see and understand these important warnings, potentially increasing the risk of a crash.
As of now, Tesla has begun rolling out a free over-the-air software update to address this issue. The update will automatically increase the font size of the affected warning lights.
Even though the issue can be addressed through a software update, it’s crucial to take action:
1. Check if your vehicle is affected: Use your vehicle identification number (VIN) to confirm if your Tesla is included in the recall on the NHTSA website
2. Schedule a software update: You can schedule the update through your Tesla app or by contacting Tesla customer service.
3. Wait for official notification: Tesla will mail official recall notices to affected owners starting March 30th, 2024. These notices will provide detailed instructions on how to schedule the software update.
