Seattle Construction Worker Dies after Falling From Scaffolding
A construction worker in Seattle, Washington died Monday morning after falling 50 feet at a construction site in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood.
About the Seattle Construction Accident
- According to KIRO, the 31-year-old man, whose identity has yet to be released, was employed as a welder with North Coast Iron Corp. of Anacortes, Washington.
- Witnesses stated that he had unclipped his safety harness as he attempted to move from one part of the scaffolding to another when he tripped and fell.
- The man fell approximately 50 feet from the scaffolding to the sidewalk below – it was the man’s first day at the job site.
- The Washington State Department of Labor and Industries is investigating the site.
Construction Accident Statistics
- According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, 4,383 workers were killed on the job in 2012 – more than 12 deaths a day.
- Fatal injuries involving construction workers accounted for roughly 17 percent of all workplace injuries recorded in private injuries.
- Falls accounted for 36 percent of all construction related deaths.
