2 Campers Killed by Drunk Driver on Padre Island
A married couple was run over by a car while camping on Padre Island. They were both killed immediately.
About the Fatal Padre Island Accident
According to KHOU, around 1:00 am Wednesday, a drunk 21-year-old man struck the campers before running his truck into a red car parked at the camping site.
The tragic accident is still being investigated and the camper’s names haven’t been released. Sources say they had just moved in to Corpus Christi and were living on the beach while in between jobs.
A dog was accompanying the campers survived and is uninjured

The following information was provided by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT):
- 3,534 people were killed in auto accidents in Texas in 2014 – a 3.7-percent increase over the 3,408 deaths reported in 2013.
- Pedestrian accidents claimed 486 lived in Texas in 2014.
- Alcohol was determined to be a factor in 1,041 motor vehicle fatalities in Texas in 2014.
- TxDOT estimated a traffic-related fatality occurred every 2 hours and 29 minutes in 2014.
