4-Year-Old Dies in ATV Accident

Police have identified the 4-year-old victim of a Cochise County accident.

Details about the Fatal Accident Involving the Child

Tucson News Now is reporting that officials from Cochise County have identified the 4-year-old boy who died in an off-road vehicle accident in Benson that happened over the weekend.

According to police, Wyatt Bell was riding in a Side By Side UTV when it rolled over near Ocotillo Road and Little Rincon Ranch at about 11:55 a.m. on Sunday. The boy was ejected from the vehicle during the accident.

The victim was then taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The family of the boy was nearby when the accident happened.

A friend of the family was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident, according to spokeswoman from the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators are currently running tests to see whether or not the driver of the UTV was impaired at the time of the incident or not.

The spokeswoman further stated that the accident remains under investigation and the vehicle is also being inspected for any potential mechanical failures.

  • As of December 31, 2014, the CPS had calculated a total number of 13,617 ATV-related fatalities that happened between the years of 1982 and 2014.
  • Of those fatalities, 3,098 of those happened to children under the age of 16.
  • In 2011, there were 626 ATV-related fatalities of children under the age of 16.
