Delaware Man Critically Injured in Motorcycle Accident
A new report on Delaware Online says state police have identified the man critically injured in a recent motorcycle accident in Bear, DE. Authorities say Trevis Dalton, 38 of New Castle remains in critical condition as they continue to investigate the crash.
Details of the Bear Motorcycle Accident
- The accident happened on May 13 on U.S. 40, known locally as Pulaski Highway, near Becks Woods Drive.
- Dalton was driving a 2007 Kawasaki motorcycle westbound on U.S. 40. Initial reports indicate he was speeding and driving in an aggressive manner.
- A 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser driven by Tia Burton, 40, had just made a right hand turn onto U.S. 40 and was in the process of merging into the right lane when Dalton struck the vehicle from behind.
- The force of the collision caused Dalton to be ejected from the motorcycle.
Dalton was transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for multiple traumatic injuries he sustained in the wreck. He was not wearing a helmet.
Burton, who was wearing a seat belt, sustained minor injuries but refused treatment. Also in her vehicle was a 2-year-old and 3-year-old child. Both children were properly restrained and not injured in the crash.
Delaware Motorcycle Accident Statistics
According to Delaware State Police, in 2012 there were 353 traffic accidents that involved a motorcycle. Of those crashes, 17 (5%) were fatal, including 12 motorcyclists who were not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Drugs and/or alcohol were factors in 12 of the motorcycle fatalities.
