Driver Charged in Fatal Houston Bus Crash


A suspected drunk driver has been charged with intoxication manslaughter following a fatal collision with a bus in southwest Houston.

About the Fatal Houston Bus Crash

According to ABC 13, the fatal crash occurred late Thursday when Gregory Charles, driving a black Chevrolet, crashed into the back of a Nissan that had stopped at a red light at the intersection of Almeda and Reed Road.

The Nissan was pushed into the intersection where it was struck by a charter bus shuttling passengers for a rodeo. The Nissan then continued through the intersection where it was struck by a second charter bus.

The driver of the Nissan, a 65-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

  • An additional 246,335 people were injured in Texas traffic accidents in 2015. 17,011 people suffered serious injuries.
  • Based on reportable crash data for 2015, TxDOT estimated:
    • A person was killed in a traffic accident in Texas every 2 hours and 29 minutes.
    • A person was injured every 2 minutes and 8 seconds.
    • A reportable crash occurred every 61 seconds.
