School Transportation Safety
The United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration defines a school transportation related crash as, “a crash that involves, either directly or indirectly, a school bus body vehicle, or a non-school bus functioning as a school bus, transporting children to or from school or school-related activities.”
Although school buses are proven to be one of the safest modes of transportation for the coming and going of school children to school, traffic accidents can still occur involving pedestrians or other vehicles etc.
Parents/ parental guardians as well as school bus drivers are responsible for knowing the safety rules and guidelines surrounding school bus transportation.
