Georgia Man Killed Due to Faulty Takata Airbag
Federal regulators are calling for more vehicle recalls as another death is linked to faulty airbags developed and manufactured by Takata Corporation.
Details about the Accident
The Examiner is reporting that federal regulators have announced the recall of almost 5 million more vehicles equipped with defective Takata Corporation airbags. The announcement comes after the death of Joh Cavangany who died on December 22 after his car hit a cow in South Carolina.
Cavangany, originally of Georgia, was driving his 2006 Ford Ranger at the time of the accident. Cavangany is the tenth recorded death worldwide linked to the faulty Takata airbag inflators.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the latest recall raises the number of faulty recall inflators to nearly 28 million – 24 million of which were sold in the United States. Other carmakers involved include Audi, Volkswagen, and Mercedes Benz.
Ford has extended its condolences to the family and is cooperating with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in investigation the accident.

- More than 30 million vehicles in the United States made by 10 different automakers have been recalled to replace frontal airbags.
- The airbags were installed in cars from 2002-2008 and some in 2014.
