Head-On Collision Kills One in Gray County
An Amarillo woman was killed in Gray County Friday morning after her vehicle was involved in a head-on collision. At least one other has been hospitalized.
Details of the Fatal Head-On Collision
According to the Amarillo Globe-News, 32-year-old Kaycee Ellis was fatally injured at around 3:05 am Friday when her Infinity SUV collided head-on with a 2017 Ford XLT truck on Interstate 40.
Officials believe Ellis was traveling in the wrong lane of traffic when the crash occurred; however, they have not determined why Ellis’ vehicle crossed into the path of oncoming traffic.
The driver of the truck, 67-year-old Brent Palmer, sustained serious injuries in the crash and was airlifted to an area hospital.

- 1,972 of the deaths recorded in 2016 were attributed to crashes that occurred in rural areas of the state.
- Head-on collision killed 638 people in 2016.
- An additional 265,076 people were injured in car crashes in Texas in 2016.
